This article focuses on relations between the Caliphate of Córdoba and the main political powers in medieval Europe in the 10th century. These contacts, established with embassies that were subjected to a rigorous protocol, will be explained through an analysis of the diplomatic missions undertaken by John of Gorze, Recemundus and Liutprand of Cremona as well as the role played by Hasdai ibn Shaprut. Equally, the lengthy cultural exchanges between the embassies, crystallised in certain material examples such as the maqsura in the Aljama Mosque of Córdoba and a ceramic moulding that adorns the middle of the dome facing the mihrab, will be examined.
