The purpose of this article is to perform a review of classical Arabic language and thought in relation with today’s Arab plastic arts. It provides a summary describing the «modern-day Arab artist», undoubtedly influenced by the global art and culture ecosystem (inside and outside the Arab and Islamic countries), with innovative contributions rooted in Arabs’ visual and verbal memory, not merely adapting external trends in art. Figures and trajectories such as that of Iraq’s Madiha Omar, the direct contact of these Arab artists with the international avant-garde through the famous Baghdad Group, and the figure and aesthetic and philosophical contributions of artist Kamal Bullat through calligraphy all give us a closer look at the diverse world of modern-day Arab art.
