In recent years Spain has witnessed a significant rise in studies on Arab countries from two interconnected disciplines, Political Science and International Relations. With some delay with regard to other European countries, today we can corroborate the existence of a healthy network of specialists in these fields, a situation attributable to different reasons: the slow configuration of stable academic centres in a number of universities, research and teaching projects on the contemporary Arab world, growing interest in the media and among think tanks, and a progressively larger number of researchers who have worked with more diverse themes and carried out fieldwork. Nevertheless, significant deficits and gaps remain.
