In the summer of 1913, a young Spanish diplomat arrived in Jerusalem tasked with the protection of Spanish interests in the holy land. With the outbreak of the war, his role dramatically changed and in time he became a key player in the region. With the arrival of the British in December of 1917, his historical agency slowly faded away. This article will discuss the role played by the Spanish consul in Jerusalem in the attempt to give him back his historical voice and agency.
