This article describes the conflict between two logics: on the one hand, that which understands citizenship as a legal status that favours the «individual»; on the other, that which understands citizenship as a reference originating in insurrection and the right to resist, expressing the collective political capacity to «form» a State and institute a public space for free expression and demonstrations. Explaining this issue, formulating and suggesting the paradoxes which arise and suggesting political consequences —experienced across the Mediterranean region— the «expression of citizenship» is described in terms of different political experiences, beyond the simple legal meaning of the term.
