This article puts forward an analysis of the different attitudes held on the arrival of Arab people in the Iberian Peninsula and the events that occurred in the spring of the year 711. It starts off by addressing the way medieval sources, both Latin and Arab, handled the facts and then moves on to the ideology of the different existing trends in Spanish nationalist historiography. It concludes by enumerating all of the historical causes of the conquest and the occupation of territory.
