Bioethics has emerged as one of the most important examples of applied ethics in the modern period. Building on its pedigree in moral philosophy and medical ethics, bioethics examines a wide array of moral questions in the broad areas of the life sciences, scientific research and environmental studies. This article situates bioethical deliberations within the larger Islamic normative context and highlights the role of Islamic law in these discussions and in moral decision-making in general.
