Over the past ten years, we have been witnessing a genuine emergence of young directors from the Arab World; young people -under forty- from different countries and religions, the majority spanning various cultures. Their feature films, short films and documentaries revisit themes which have already been explored, for instance the situation in Palestine, or exile or war, whilst adding a fresh perspective associated with greater cinematic expertise and the use of new technologies. One unique case is in the United Arab Emirates, which, without a film industry a decade ago, is today one of the driving forces behind cinema in the Arab world.
