The term Islamic feminism itself is controversial for western feminists as well as for some Islamic feminists. Hence the intense debate aroused over the compatibility of the terms Islamism and feminism, and the possibility of an effective women’s emancipation by the hand of a feminist movement that works within the framework of religion. Even though opinions on this issue tend to converge in two main opposed lines of thought, it is also true that a wide range of opinions and nuances can be found in each of them. Nevertheless, the specific features of each feminist current do not hinder an open and common environment where diverse feminisms can share their fights and work in cooperation. Their dialectic relationships put the focus on their common pillars rather than on their differences. In conclusion, the goal is to create and share a common environment that enables feminist actions to transcend their local spheres, and thus to also acquire a global dimension.
