After increasing before the crisis, hydrocarbon prices have stabilised to a reasonable level, which, combined with rising global demand, promises the significant accumulation of capital in Arab countries exporting these materials. Sovereign wealth funds and state bodies have become the new leading figures in international investment, together with large family fortunes allocated to sectors of interest for Spain. Equally, the Arab world’s financial «banking» market gives rise to increasingly more sophisticated and specialised investment funds. The Persian Gulf, therefore, has become a key destination for companies wishing to continue their competitiveness in an environment with capital in increasingly short supply and concentrated in emerging countries.
